Fomepizole Injection is an antidote used to treat methanol and ethylene glycol poisoning. It works by blocking the enzyme that changes these chemicals into harmful toxins. Early treatment helps reduce the risk of kidney damage, blindness (from methanol), nerve damage and other serious problems. The injection is given under close medical supervision in hospital settings.
Adults & Children: The loading dose is 15 mg/kg. Then move to 10 mg/kg every 12 hours for the next 4 doses. Lastly, 15 mg/kg every 12 hours until the methanol or ethylene glycol levels come down to <20 mg/dL.
